It has been said that marriage is HARD work.  My response to that is always, it is WORK, but whether its hard, OR NOT, depends on you.

After being married almost 24 years (December 17 to be exact) I know first hand the amount of work that goes into cultivating and growing a healthy relationship.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m not coming from a place of authority, or claim to be and expert by any means.  Learning what works for OUR relationship has come through lots of prayer and some trial and error, so I’m not offering advice on what YOU should do, I’m simply stating what has worked for us.

Think about it for a minute, generally speaking, you and your mate have come from varying backgrounds with different rules (or not) that have governed your lives.  If you’re fortunate, you collide with someone who has similar spiritual goals, values, morals, etc.  But if you don’t, then what?

If I had to offer two words to hold onto, they would be forgiveness and compromise, you can get a lot of mileage out of these two.  Nothing new right? You’ve heard this before, but application, ahh yes, application, is the key. If you continuously strive to master them, you’ll have the tools necessary to build a strong foundation, if you don’t, prepare for dilapidation.

Marriage is what YOU make it.  It’s real easy to give up, but what’s the reward in that?

–Dedicated to the love of my life, my ride or die, my baby daddy and my lovely daughter, my first born, who recently became engaged…you know who you are!!
